The weather is heating up here in Lucca, the wisteria is starting to bloom at the entrance to the Villa and we have even had the first dip in the pool! Spring is a beautiful time of year in this part of the world, and there is a frisson in the air as everyone looks forward to the coming summer season. The weekend of April 27th marks the celebration of Santa Zita. The historical centre of Lucca hosts a Flower Fair, in memory of St. Zita, also known as Saint of the flowers. Wander the streets and squares of Lucca, in particular Piazza San Frediano and Piazza Anfiteatro, and witness them explode with colour and the intense fragrance of flowers, as well as local food and wine. If you are already looking forward to May, there is an abundance of festivities here in Lucca, not least the Palio dei Micci, bringing thousands of people in medieval costume to the historical centre. For those more inclined towards the sensory delights, May also brings the Cantine Aperti or ‘Open Cellars’ to Chianti, where wineries in the region hold dinners in farmhouses and wineries that would otherwise not be open to outsiders.
In the spirit of Spring cleaning, Villa Michaela has a brand new website with more images and information on what is going on in and around the villa than ever before. You can still find us at the same place; www.villamichaela.com.
In addition to a new look, we also have a couple new and exciting services that we are offering to guests at the Villa:
Anyone who has visited us before, knows that our location offers some of the most stunning views of olive groves and surrounding Tuscan hills. Why not join us for one of our new Landscape Painting Workshops. We have an incredibly talented artist and teacher at Villa Michaela straight from the eminent Florence Academy of Art who can guide you and your brush . If capturing the human form is more your thing, not to worry, we offer portrait workshops as well. Click here for more information.
We believe that Villa Michaela has it’s own restorative powers, but should you need something more, upon request we can now arrange for a private or group Yoga class at the Villa. Our instructor speaks both English and Italian and is a Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master Healer and Ayurvedic Consultant.
Villa Michaela makes for such a serene and stimulating place to practice that plans are in the works to have a Yoga retreat here later this Summer… dates to follow! Click here for more information.
