The wreath is on the front door and Villa Michaela is looking wonderfully festive. At this time of year Lucca glows with Christmas lights adorning the renaissance architecture and chestnuts roast on every cobbled street corner. This is a wonderful time of year to experience true Tuscan living. Days are spent wandering the Christmas markets in the local villages, hiking the hills in the crisp winter air and feasting on hearty Tuscan recipes in the local trattorias.
If you don’t yet have plans for New Year’s Eve, Villa Michaela will be welcoming 2016 with many bottles of bubbles and a traditional Tuscan feast. It is not too late to join us! Get in touch to book your place at the table in our stunning frescoed dining room.
January 6th brings another holiday in Tuscany; the celebration of the Epiphany. Better known to Italian children as the night when the friendly witch Befana brings sweets and chocolate to all those children who have been good and coal to those who have been bad. Stay at Villa Michaela for Epiphany, take part in the celebrations in various local towns and villages and try some traditional Tuscan sweets.
Also in January is the Opera and Prose season at Teatro del Giglio, including productions of Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi (4th & 5th January 2016), The School (8th & 9th January 2016), and Betrayal (22nd, 23rd & 24th January 2016).
