November at Villa Michaela

Now that the glorious Tuscan summer at Villa Michaela is but a distant memory of long al fresco lunches, hours lounging by the pool, sun glinting on  the olive trees, early morning hikes up the hills into the cool pine forests, and trips down to incomparable Lucca for a spot of opera or summer rock concert, people watching, wine tasting, or bicycling on the mediaeval walls in the shade of the plane trees, we turn our attention to the season of mellow fruitfulness and the vendemmia (harvest) of the olives.
The autumn colours have been glorious this year and coupled with the forthcoming Christmas markets in Florence and Pistoia, the ice rink on Piazza Napoleone in the centre of Lucca city and all the up and coming music and concerts, there could not be a better time to visit Tuscany now free from the hordes of tourists and sweltering temperatures which make sightseeing a little challenging even for the most enthusiastic traveller .
A memorable sight at this time of year are the wisps of smoke coming from the bonfires on the legendary Tuscan hills – long awaited since no burning is permitted between April and October!
Come and savour all the Tuscan winter dishes – wild boar (cinghiale con polenta ) , pappa di pomodoro and many other wonderful Lucchese winter specialities. For the next month Il Desco Food Festival in the heart of Lucca, offers the opportunity to discover the flavours and recipes of the region. Alternatively, take a trip to the frantoio (olive press) and witness the various stages of the oil being produced.
Witness the city of Lucca illuminated by candles for the Festa di San Michele from the 8th December. Attend an Opera recital of the best arias from Puccini, Verdi and Mozart at the beautiful oratorio of the Museo della Cattedrale, every Friday and Saturday night; Puccini e La Sua Lucca. Or alternatively Monday December 22nd at Teatro del Giglio there is “Puccini racconta Puccini”.  Stay into the New Year and visit Teatro Verdi in Pisa for their wonderful production of Verdi’s Aida
Take advantage of the off season low price air tickets and come and see the Lucchesia in its raw beauty without its summer cloak. Walk on a windswept beach – we can lend you a dog! If snow falls bring your gear and whirl up to Abetone for a days skiing, only one hour from Villa Michaela.
Take advantage of our Special Offers – three nights or more we will treat you to a complimentary lunch or dinner at Il Rio in Vorno within walking distance – nothing could be more quintessentially Tuscan.
Looking forward to seeing you soon at Villa Michaela. Keep in touch!
