Wake up! You’re living the Tuscan dream – Helen

This is not sleek or shiny, nor is it the right time of year to visit, but if you want to put an authentic Tuscan experience towards the top of your wish list, choose this one.Villa Michaela is the real deal, huge, covered as it is in a variety of climbing greenery your first impression will not disappoint. We arrived here for the cookery school, though you can stay for bed and breakfast, and from the beginning our hosts greeted us as if we were invited guests, indeed this did feel like a big old family reunion, though we knew no one, because the hospitality and friendship went well beyond even the most intimate of hotels. We were introduced to our fellow guests over fizz and nibbles before we had even unpacked(in one of the twelve enormous and comfortable bedrooms),and that set the tone for the week.Relaxed but professional tutoring by chef Gavin produced mouthwatering meals.. and lots of laughs, joined at dinner by charismatic owner Vanessa and friend David,we were entertained with stories and anecdotes that kept us amused until the small hours. With free flowing wine and generosity in great supply, Gavin’s wife Lucie took gentle charge of daily life and it was truly a very special week.We were taken to the Chianti region, sailed on a picturesque boat trip and to top it all had a divine professional opera recital over dinner.Treated like old friends, this was a week to savour..on so many levels. Thank You.
